Change photo background to white

Passport, visa and ID applications usually need a plain white or light background. If your photo was taken against a wall, a curtain or a room, this tool finds you in the picture and replaces everything behind you. It runs on your device; the photo is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop a photo of one person, head and shoulders, facing the camera.
  2. Wait a few seconds. The first time, about 6 MB is downloaded so the work can be done in your browser.
  3. Choose the new background: white, light grey, light blue, any colour, or transparent.
  4. Check the edges around your hair and shoulders. Move Edge softness if they look too sharp or too blurry, then download.
  5. Crop to the exact size with the passport photo resizer.

For the best result

  • Use good, even light on your face and a background that is a different colour from your hair and clothes.
  • Very fine or curly hair edges may be softened. Check the result at full size before you submit it.
  • Do not use this to change how you look. Most offices reject photos with edited faces; this tool only changes the background.
