US visa photo: 600 × 600 pixels, under 240 KB

The U.S. Department of State asks for a digital photo that is square, 600 × 600 pixels, in JPG format and no larger than 240 KB for online visa applications and the DV lottery. This page is set to exactly that. Drop your photo in, drag it into place, and download.

How to use it

  1. Drop a recent colour photo of yourself, taken against a plain white or off-white wall.
  2. Drag the photo so your head sits inside the dashed oval. Scroll or pinch to zoom.
  3. Click Download photo. The file is 600 × 600 pixels and under 240 KB.

Photo rules worth checking before you submit

  • Taken within the last six months, in colour.
  • Full face, looking straight at the camera, neutral expression, both eyes open.
  • Plain white or off-white background, no shadows on your face or the wall.
  • No glasses. No filters or edits to your face.

This tool only crops and resizes; it cannot fix lighting or background. Rules can change, so read the current requirements on travel.state.gov before submitting. For other countries’ sizes, use the passport photo resizer.
