Remove a password from a PDF
Banks, mobile networks and employers often send statements and payslips as PDFs that ask for a password every time you open them. If you know the password, this page saves a copy that opens without it, which is handy for uploading to a portal or keeping in your records. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop the PDF in the box.
- Type the password you normally use to open it. Bank statement passwords are often based on your date of birth or part of your account or ID number, as the bank’s email explains.
- Click Remove password and download.
Restricted PDFs
Some PDFs open without a password but block printing or copying. Leave the password box empty and the tool removes those restrictions too.
What this tool will not do
It does not guess or crack passwords. If you have forgotten the password, ask whoever sent you the file. Only unlock files you are allowed to open.
The unlocked copy can be opened by anyone who gets it, so store it carefully. To lock it again with your own password, use protect PDF.
